About Steve...

While working with Hurricane Katrina victims, as a hospital chaplain, I was struck by the quick turn-around one patient took, when he suddenly found something to laugh about. He lost everything he owned and after a week of reflection he was reminded of an old George Carlin comedy bit on "Stuff." We both laughed in his hospital room as we recounted the comedy bit.

I was amazed by the emotional and physical healing that took place for him after that unscheduled session of comedy, humor, and laughter.

That encounter set me off on a two year study of the dynamics of humor and laughter and its place in our emotional, physical, and spiritual well being.

In that process, I discovered medical research and therapeutic practices of laughter that go beyond entertainment. I  learned that laughter helps us break down communication barriers, it fosters teamwork, it builds employee morale, it increases mental attentiveness, promotes open interaction, it decreases stress hormones, improves the immune system, it boosts good endorphins, it aids in better breathing and it just plain old makes us feel good!

In September 2007 I became a Certified Laughter Leader through The World Laughter Tour   and began leading therapeutic laughter programs and giving speaking presentations for businesses, healthcare, and organizations searching for fun stress relief and employee morale building programs!

"A hospital chaplain turned...therapeutic laughter leader! - Steve has answered his true uniquely gifted calling!"

- Rev. Jack Giddens, D.Min., Hospice Chaplain

A Ministry of Mirtth in the Marketplace

Although I am full-time "humor consulting" (whatever that means!) I am still involved in ministry through chaplain care service as a workforce chaplain. It just so happens that also enjoy sharing my message of "Laugh more, stress less, live better, and lead further!" with any company, organization, or audience that will listen!

My laughter programs and humor consulting services are non-religious, non-political, non-threatening, and also participatory only to the extent that one may wish to participate.

My workforce chaplain services are never agressive or proselytizing. I don't seek people out or single anyone out as a religious target, infact, my chaplain care is available by request and by simple being available as needed. Please read more about at my Chaplain Services  page.

My hold seminary degrees, in religion and pastoral ministry, Southern Adventist University and Mount Carmel Baptist School of Theology, and hospital chaplain clinical pastoral education from Baptist Hospital and University Hospital.

Although my background has been focused in pastoral ministry and hospital chaplain work, I have also been employeed in hotel management, including hotel management leadership training with Radisson Hotels.

People spend a huge part of their lives at work, and I believe that if one enjoys his work, they will also enjoy their life! A life enjoyed, is a life that enriches their family and friends, too.

My Writing

If I can't be running my jaws to an audience from a stage, I can be found pushing my pen to reach them from the power of the written word. I publish a monthly humor paper in Mobile, Alabama called The Funny Paper .

I am the author of "Our Greatest Need: Isn't it time to answer God's call to effectual prayer?" and am the author of "21 Motivational Insights on Leadership Enrichment" and  "Five Steps to Writing Memorable Wedding Vows ."

"A Time to Laugh :: Funny Stories and Hilarious Thoughts from the Chaplain of Comedy!"   will be released in Spring 2009. It promises to be a hilarious book filled with bits from my on stage somedy!

My Family

My beautiful wife, two of my four children, and I, live in Mobile, Alabama with our family pet dachshund "Keef" and photos of my grandchild, Boo.

We are happy members of First Baptist Tillman's Corner

For fun, we frequent the nearby Gulf Shores beaches, follow Alabama Crimson Tide football, love vacationing at Disney World, and periodically evacuate our home in fear of impending hurricanes.
