Rest for Backsliders
“This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.” Isaiah 30:15 (NIV)
Backsliding may put us back in control of our life, but it is when the Spirit of God brings rest that we have life. When a person stops church activities and gatherings by removing themselves from a Christ-following fellowship, we should pray the Spirit to go out to get them and cause them in their own works to stop stepping back, rest in Christ, and accept His forgiveness again and as often as necessary.
If God is putting it on your mind to reconnect with a church you once were part of, or even a new one, do it. Don’t let your backsliding become outright resistance, because you will find strength as you rest again in the Lord.
Let’s pray today that with the power of God’s Spirit we will trust and return to Him again and again.
